In a move that signals a major shift in the Southeast Asian tech landscape, telecommunications giant PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Tbk (ISAT) has teamed up with the Arsari Group to launch a dual-front infrastructure platform. This isn't just another corporate partnership; it is a comprehensive ecosystem designed to power the regional hyperscale boom through a 53,000-mile optical backbone and a first-of-its-kind domestic GPU assembly line.
Operating under the brand RAIA Grid via the joint venture PT Infra Fiber Teknologi (IFT), this initiative is specifically built for hyperscalers, telecom carriers, and cloud providers. By combining high-density computing with massive fiber-optic reach, RAIA Grid aims to bridge the gap between isolated regional server clusters and provide the low-latency connectivity required for the next generation of artificial intelligence.
Breaking the Regional Monopoly
For years, hardware manufacturing and assembly for high-end tech have been dominated by regional neighbors, particularly in places like Penang, Malaysia. RAIA Grid is set to change that narrative. With a capital expenditure of $22 million (approximately Rp 349.8 billion), the venture is establishing a domestic assembly line for advanced AI accelerators.
By December 2026, IFT plans to commence operations in industrial zones near Jakarta, such as Purwakarta. The facility will be capable of assembling 140 to 150 enterprise-grade GPU units every month, utilizing Nvidia’s cutting-edge GB300 architecture. This move positions Indonesia as one of the few nations in the region capable of handling advanced GPU fabrication, effectively anchoring the global tech supply chain within the archipelago.
The Vision for a National Digital Highway
During the commercial launch in Jakarta on August 26, 2026, Arsari Group Founder and Chairman Hashim Djojohadikusumo emphasized that this project is about long-term sovereignty. He noted that what is being built today will dictate Indonesia's standing in the global economy for decades to come. RAIA Grid is a commitment to developing the infrastructure, talent, and localized knowledge needed for Indonesia to shape its own AI-driven future rather than just consuming it.
On the connectivity side, the platform is leveraging an staggering 86,000 kilometers (roughly 53,438 miles) of existing fiber assets. This "digital highway" provides high-capacity backhaul for 5G towers, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks, and critical data center interconnects (DCI). According to Indosat CEO Vikram Sinha, the architecture isn't just passive glass; it integrates machine learning and Agentic AI directly into the network for route optimization and predictive maintenance.
Beyond Hardware: The Subsea Future and Green Energy
While the $22 million GPU facility is a significant first step, the roadmap for RAIA Grid is even more ambitious. RAIA Grid Director of Finance Hendra Purnama revealed that this is only the beginning of a broader capital program. The next phase includes a planned $190 million (Rp 3.02 trillion) subsea fiber-optic network designed to further integrate Indonesia into the global AI supply chain.
